Herpes Zoster

Herpes zoster is a dermatological disease caused by the reactivation of the latent varicella virus. Patients who have previously had primary varicella (chickenpox) have a 25-30% lifetime risk of developing shingles. Herpes zoster is often seen after the age of 60 and in immunosuppressed patients

The disease begins with pain before the lesions appear. It is characterized by grouped vesicles on a reddened background. It usually occurs on one side of the body and does not cross the midline. With drug treatment started early (in the first 72 hours), the risk of developing complications is reduced and the disease is kept under control.
