Scar Treatment with Laser
Scar tissue occurs as a normal result of the wound healing process. On the otherhand, scar can
disturb the person psychosocially. In such cases, surgical revision can be performed, or scar tissue
can be reduced with a laser method. Depending on the type of scar, it can be improved by 60-70%.
Erbium yag-laser is used ablatively in scar treatment, and Nd-yag laser can also be used in some scar
types. The number of sessions varies depending on the size of the scar and the person's healing
capacity. It is generally applied at intervals of 4-6 weeks. The application is painless since the area is
anesthetized with a topical anesthetic before the application and a cooler is used during the laser
process.
When the scar tissue is destroyed with the Erbium-yag laser, redness and sensitivity may occur in the
area. This situation may continue for approximately 1 week to 10 days. The person can continue his
daily life after the application. Protecting the applied area with restorative creams and sunscreen
recommended by the doctor is an important step in the treatment.
More successful results are achieved when laser treatment is combined with mesotherapy or PRP.
