Excisional biopsy is preferred not only for diagnosis but also for surgery of existing malignant tumors. Depending on the pathology result, secondary expansion surgeries can also be performed.
Skin Biopsy
Histopathological examination is the gold standard in diagnosing many dermatological diseases. Therefore, in cases of clinical suspicion, skin biopsy is performed. Skin biopsy can be performed as punch, incisional, shave or excisional, depending on the disease, the area of the lesion or the doctor's preference.

How is a skin biopsy performed?
Informed consent is obtained from the patient before skin biopsy. The area to be treated is marked and cleaned, anesthetized with a local anesthetic needle, a sterile perforated drape is laid on the area, and a biopsy is taken with sterilized instruments. The area is usually stitched and covered with gauze. After 2 days, the gauze is opened and wound care is performed by applying antibiotic cream 1-2 times a day.
Is skin biopsy painful?
Since the area is anesthetized with a needle before the procedure, the patient does not feel any pain or ache.
How will having a biopsy affect my daily life?
The procedure takes approximately 20-30 minutes. The person can easily continue his daily life. There is no need for a rest period. It is only recommended not to let water touch the treated area for 48 hours. It is recommended to avoid exercise depending on the area removed until the stitches are removed.
