Acne
Acne is a skin disease that is most common in adolescence, but is also very common in middle age. Acne occurs when the tip of the hair follicles become clogged with a keratin plug due to increased sebum secretion and inflammation caused by p.acnes. As a result follicle wall ruptures and acne occurs.
There are 3 types of acne.
Comedonal acne: It can be seen as open or closed comedone, depending on whether there is a keratin plug in its center.
Papulopustular acne: It can be seen as 2-4 mm inflamed papules and/or pustules.
Nodulocystic acne: Cyst-like structures that form under the skin. They are painful. These lesions may leave permanent scarring. When lesions are large and severe, the term “acne conglobata” is used.
In addition to medications such as topical or systemic retinoids, antibiotics, azeleic acid, benzoyl peroxide, dapsone, laser treatments are also beneficial in acne treatment.
